Sick Soup

A soup recipe with ingredients and directions for a bowl of comfort.

This simple, comforting soup is a home remedy I’ve relied on for years. It’s straightforward to prepare and brings soothing warmth and flavor when you need it most.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart chicken stock

  • 2 inches fresh ginger root

  • Minimum 1 head garlic (use more if desired)

  • 2 cups rice

Directions

  1. Slice ginger into ultra-thin discs—aim for transparency, similar to paper or cardstock.

  2. Peel the garlic. Start with one head, but feel free to use as much as you like; more garlic deepens the flavor and softness.

  3. Rinse rice thoroughly until water drains clear.

  4. Combine chicken stock, sliced ginger, garlic, and rice in a pot.

  5. Bring to a boil, then reduce to medium-low and cover.

  6. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until rice is tender and the broth has thickened.

  7. Serve hot.
